In what should be a lively contest on Wednesday night, a high-flying Sassuolo will host defending champions Juventus from behind closed doors.
Starting with the hosts, while Sassuolo might have left it too late to mount a serious European charge, few would have expected their stunning return from the enforced break. Leaving it late to snatch was the most dramatic 2-1 victory off of Lazio on home soil, Roberto De Zerbi’s men have won their last four Serie A contests on the bounce and have continued skyrocketing up the standings. With the mood in their camp at a season-high, they have now collected 14 points over their past six top-flight appearances. In the midst of their most fruitful run in recent memory, there is no doubt that De Zerbi will be most impressed by his side’s scintillating showings in front of goal. Including putting four past Leece earlier in the month, Wednesday’s hosts have now scored a staggering 17 strikes on their six-match unbeaten run and have recorded over 2.5 goals in all bar one of those contests.
As for the vistors, while Lazio’s continued slip-ups might have seen Juventus inch closer to reclaiming their Serie A crown, the Old Lady appear to be crawling over the finish line. Throwing away a two-goal lead in the most shocking of fashion at the San Siro last week and shipping four goals in the space of just 18 minutes, Maurizio Sarri’s side also had to snatch what was an extremely controversial 2-2 draw against Atalanta over the weekend. While attacking talisman Cristiano Ronaldo might be enjoying another stellar goalscoring campaign at the Allianz, the former Chelsea boss has seen his side show some worrying problems at the other end of the picth. Shipping six goals in back-to-back appearances, Juventus have failed to record a single clean sheet in their last four Serie A matchups on the bounce.
