Competition: Serie B
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 3/4 @ Bet 365
In a battle between two sides with a play-off finish on their agenda, Spezia will welcome Empoli to an empty Stadio Alberto Picco on Friday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, last seen back in March when hit with a worrying 3-1 defeat away at mid-table outfit Juve Stabia, the enforced break couldn’t have come quick enough for Spezia. While the Eagles might still find themselves sat in pole position to secure a play-off spot this season, Head Coach Vincenzo Italiano found his side dealing with some rather glaring issues at the back. Including another 3-1 defeat against Benevento when closing February, Spezia have managed to land just a sole Serie B clean sheet in their last six matchups prior to the break. However, there is no doubt that Italiano will take some solace from his side’s remarkable form on home soil earlier in the year. Winning each of their last four second-tier contests at the Stadio Alberto Picco, Friday’s hosts have now collected 26 points out of a possible 30 over their past 10 Serie B home fixtures.
As for the visitors, while Empoli may have been disappointed to have only collected a point away at Trapani prior to the enforced break, Pasquale Marino’s men have played themselves back into the play-off picture. Marking their return sat just a single point adrift of breaking back into the top-eight, the Blues have continued to gain a reputation across Italy’s second-tier for their performances on the road. Picking up maximum points in what was a five-goal thriller at Cremonese in their last matchup away from the Stadio Carlo Castellani, Empoli have won each of their last three Serie B matchups on their travels. With each of the last four meetings between the two sides seeing both teams find the net by full-time, we’re backing what should be another lively contest on Serie B’s return this week.
