In a matchup that could prove to be another lively affair in midweek, Sporting KC will welcome Colorado to Children’s Mercy Park in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Starting with the hosts, after throwing away the lead away at Portland last weekend, there is no doubt that Kansas will still be wondering how they left Oregon with nothing to show for their troubles. Eventually hit with a 2-1 defeat on the road, despite dominating large spells of the game, Head Coach Peter Vermes will be glad to make a return to home soil in midweek. Desperate to prove that they’re just in the midst of an ever so minor blip after collecting just a single point from back-to-back MLS matchups, The Wizards have still managed to largely impress at Children’s Mercy Park. Thursday’s hosts are unbeaten in all five of their home fixtures since opening the 2021 campaign, a run highlighted by back-to-back 3-0 and 3-2 wins against Houston and Vancouver last month. However, it is worth highlighting that four of their five home matchups this season have finished with both teams finding the net by the final whistle.
As for the visitors, marking their return from the international break with a real flurry away at Cincinnati, the mood in Colorado’s camp should be at a real high. Knowing that victory in midweek could move them within striking distance of top spot in the Western Conference, Robin Fraser’s men are tipped as a standout pick to clinch another play-off spot this season. Really bouncing back from that 2-1 defeat at the hands of Los Angeles last month, The Rapids have collected 15 points from their last six MLS matchups. Gaining a reputation for their clinical edge in the final third and bagging themselves over 1.5 goals in their previous four victories, we could have another lively meeting on our hands at Children’s Mercy Park. With four of the last six meetings between Sporting and Colorado finishing with both teams finding the net, we’re backing a similar outcome here.
