Smelling a real chance to extend on what has been a purple patch this year, Sporting KC will welcome FC Dallas to Children’s Mercy Park in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Starting with the hosts, putting in what was another hugely impressive display earlier in the week and cruising their way to a stunning 3-1 victory away at Seattle, Sporting KC now have their sights set on retaining their Western Conference crown. Now sat just two points adrift of The Sounders, Peter Vermes’ men have collected 13 points from just their last five MLS contests, including another 3-1 victory against Colorado Rapids last month. With the mood in their camp at a red-hot high, The Wizards should be smelling another chance when they return to Children’s Mercy Park in the early hours of Sunday. However, it should also be noted, along with each of their last five straight contests on home soil, Sporting KC have seen seven of their home fixtures this season finish with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, while Dallas might have endured what many would call a nightmare start to the new campaign, The Hoops shocked many across America last time out. Laying down a real marker in a season-best display, Luchi Gonzalez’s side hit LA Galaxy for four with a thumping display on home soil. Landing just their second MLS victory since May 2nd, the Western Conference outfit now have their sights set on making a charge for the Final Series spots. Looking to cause what would be an upset on the road this weekend, there is no doubt that Gonzalez’s will be calling on leading marksman Ricardo Pepi to spearhead their charge in Kansas. Bagging a hat-trick against The Galaxy last time out, the 18-year-old starlet has now recorded seven goals in his last eight MLS outings.
