In a Bundesliga showdown that could see a string of chances at both ends of the pitch on Friday night, Borussia Dortmund will make the trip to a rugged Union Berlin this weekend.

Starting with the hosts, while on paper it might show that Union Berlin have drawn three of their last four contests and are still searching for their first win in December, those results don’t tell the whole story. Gaining a string of plaudits since opening the 2020/2021 campaign, Urs Fischer’s men still find themselves firmly battling it out in the European picture and they will be desperate to bounce back after a late collapse against Bundesliga returners Stuttgart in midweek. While they might have managed to grab themselves what was a deserved 1-1 draw off of defending champions Bayern Munich earlier in the month, the Iron Ones did watch Stuttgart grab two goals in the final five minutes and they eventually had to settle for an action-packed 2-2 draw on Tuesday night. It is also worth highlighting that Fischer’s side are unbeaten in each of their last five matchups on home soil and some in their camp could even be smelling a real upset this week.

As for the visitors, partying ways with Lucien Farve last week and in search of a new permanent boss to take over in rural Germany, Borussia Dortmund are a side who are desperately seeking some stability. Unable to call upon the injured Erling Haaland of late, BVB did manage to muster themselves a late 2-1 win away at Werder Bremen earlier in the week. Already sat six points adrift of shock leaders Bayer Leverkusen, the Bats have managed to win just two of their last six matchups across all formats. However, while Dortmund might have largely impressed with their performances on the road so far this season, Friday’s guests have gained a real reputation for their worrying issues at the back. Failing to record a clean sheet in any of their last six appearances on the spin, we’re backing both teams to find the net when the Bundesliga fixtures open up this weekend.
