Competition: EFL Cup

Looking to pick up some kind of boost when they turn their attention back to EFL Cup duties in midweek, Arsenal will make the trip to the Hawthorns on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while West Brom might have lost their Premier League status last season, The Baggies have enjoyed a stellar return to the Championship. Making the decision to appoint Valérien Ismaël as their new boss over the summer, the former Barnsley coach once again saw his side impress over the weekend. Picking up some perfect momentum when they made the trip to Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon, the Midlands-based outfit picked up a deserved 2-1 victory against Blackburn. With the mood in their camp at a real high and finding a way to build off of last week’s 4-0 romp against Sheffield United, West Brom have collected 10 points from their opening four second-tier matchups. More impressive, it should also be noted that Wednesday’s hosts have bagged themselves over 1.5 goals in each of those four appearances.
As for the visitors, although the mood in West Brom’s camp might be at a real high, the same cannot be said for a downbeat Arsenal squad. Hit with a 2-0 defeat against London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon, Mikel Arteta’s side failed to bounce back from that shock opening day loss at the hands of Premier League debutants Brentford. Suffering back-to-back opening defeats for just the third time in the club’s history, the pressure is really starting to mount on Pep Guardiola’s former right-hand man. Failing to find any kind of bounce with their pre-season preparations, a run highlighted by a 2-1 defeat against Scottish outfit Hibernian, The Gunners could face a real banana skin as they travel to the Midlands in midweek. With three of the last four meetings between Wednesday’s opponents at the Hawthorns finishing with both teams finding the net, we’re backing a similar outcome here.
