(GSM) – World Cup bound Algeria were thrashed by supposed minnows Malawi on Monday: 3-0.
In advance to the match national coach Rabah Saadane, told Aljazeera Sport that he thought CAF made a mistake scheduling matches so early in the day when the sun is still so prominent.
“We apologise to the Algerian people,” Algerian defender Madjid Bougherra told Al Heddaf. “We weren’t at the level expected of us for this match.”
“We couldn’t play at our real level because the heat handicapped us greatly. There were moments where we couldn’t even walk on the field,” he explained.
“We were expecting that kind of heat but it was clear that our opponents were more used to it,” added the Rangers defender.
“We’ll have to bounce back against Mali, and it won’t be as hot during that one.”
