Bournemouth 1-2 Brentford: Comeback win continues remarkable road run

Brentford came from behind to beat Bournemouth 2-1 and continue their extraordinary run of form on the road in the Premier League.

Christian Norgaard’s 71st-minute strike proved decisive at the Vitality Stadium, where Vitaly Janelt’s own goal put Bournemouth ahead on Saturday.

The excellent Milos Kerkez created Bournemouth’s opener, with Janelt diverting in the Hungarian’s cross, but Thomas Frank’s team showed plenty of grit to turn matters around.

Yoane Wissa headed in an equaliser, with Kepa Arrizabalaga caught in no man’s land from Bryan Mbeumo’s inswinging corner.

Antoine Semenyo passed up a golden chance to restore Bournemouth’s lead when he headed against the crossbar early in the second half, and that miss proved costly when Kevin Schade’s long throw was swept home by Norgaard.

David Brooks missed a similarly glaring opportunity in the 80th minute when he prodded straight at Mark Flekken, as Brentford held firm to make it five straight away wins in the league for the first time since 2010, when they were in the third tier.

It marks Brentford’s 50th Premier League victory, with the Bees the fastest team to reach that milestone since 1995.

Data Debrief: Bees sting Bournemouth again

Bournemouth were looking good for a push for Champions League qualification after an exceptional start to 2025, but they are now in ninth, and could be eight points behind the top four should Chelsea beat Arsenal on Sunday.

The Cherries have not managed a league win over Brentford since August 2014, with the Bees having gone six Premier League matches against Bournemouth without tasting defeat, their best ever such run against an opponent in the competition.

Bournemouth have lost three Premier League home games in a row for the third time, last doing so in December 2019, in the season they were relegated.

Though Norgaard got their winner, key men Mbeumo and Wissa were integral to Brentford’s fightback, too.

Mbeumo has been directly involved in 20 goals (15 goals, five assists) in the Premier League this season, becoming just the second Brentford player to reach this milestone in a single campaign, after Ivan Toney in 2022-23 (24, 20 goals, four assists). Wissa, meanwhile, has been directly involved in 16 goals (14 goals, two assists) in the top flight this term, his most in a single campaign.
