Brandt: I´m not scared of rejecting Bayern again

Julian Brandt says he would not be scared of turning down Bayern Munich for the second time in his career in favour of a new Bayer Leverkusen deal.

The 20-year-old has developed into one of the Bundesliga’s brightest prospects over the past two years and speculation is mounting over his future, with his contract now in its final two years.

Brandt rejected the chance to join Bayern from Wolfsburg in 2013 in favour of a switch to the BayArena and the Germany international claims he would happily snub their advances again if he thought that staying at Leverkusen would suit him best.

“I would not be scared to dismiss Bayern for a second time,” he told Bild. “The same goes for other clubs, too.”

On the chances of renewing his Leverkusen deal, he said: “Of course that is possible. I feel very comfortable here and I know what I’ve got here. We’re constantly in good talks.

“If it were up to me, the summer would be the right time [to reveal a decision]. I don’t want to deal with this forever. It gets annoying and performances will suffer because of it.”

Brandt admitted in October that joining Bayern would be “an interesting option”, while he has also hinted at considering a move abroad.

However, Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller is confident the winger could commit his long-term future to the club.

“I am convinced Julian will be playing for Leverkusen for many more years,” Voller told Sky Sport in October.

“I am not surprised that teams like Bayern and other big clubs from across Europe are keeping an eye on him. That’s a compliment for what we do.

“But we know what Julian’s contract looks like and we know he is feeling very good here.

“It would not be the first time a player reaches a stage where he wants to leave. I hope it will not happen with Julian, but we will just move on if it happens.”
