Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt looks set to remain at the BayArena past this summer.
The 23-year-old rejected the advances of Liverpool two years ago and the Merseysiders signed Mohamed Salah from AS Roma instead. However, the same links recently reappeared, but this time Borussia Dortmund have apparently joined the race. Dortmund have money to spend and a position which suits Brandt to fill after the sale of Christian Pulisic to Chelsea.
A recent report from Sport Bild claims that apart from Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the Germany international, but Raphael Honigstein, a respected German journalist, wrote his piece for ESPN in which he suggests that Leverkusen see Dortmund and Liverpool as the two most serious contenders.
However, Sky Sports now say that Brandt is very likely to stay at Leverkusen if the team qualify for the Champions League (they stand a reasonable chance with one game to play), and that he’s willing to consider staying even if it means playing in the Europa League next season. If he does, however, choose to leave, that it’s Dortmund who would be in pole position.
