Serbia international and former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has once again emerged as a transfer target for Barcelona.
The experienced right-back is back on the Catalans’ agenda for the January transfer window according to Mundo Deportivo. Barcelona are aware it will be extremely hard – and almost impossible – to obtain their long-term targets such as Matthijs de Ligt and will look elsewhere to find a short-term solution, which is where Ivanovic comes to play.
At 34 years of age, Branislav Ivanovic boasts a wealth of international experience whereas his versatility makes him a perfect choice for Barcelona. Ivanovic can play both at the heart of the defence and at right-back and would be a perfect replacement for injured Thomas Vermaelen and Samuel Umtiti.
Barcelona are also looking at Djene Dakonam from Getafe and Unai Nunez of Athletic Bilbao but Ivanovic could arrive on loan until the end of the season and would be the most attainable option.
