(GSM) – Botafogo jumped to third place in the Brazilian Serie A following a valuable 1-0 victory over Avai, while Ceara beat Gremio to climb to fourth position.

Avai started the day in third position but their away match at Botafogo did not go quite as planned.

The only goal of the encounter came after 33 minutes and was scored by Fabio Ferreira, handing the home side a 1-0 win. This allows them to move to third position, which leaves them on course for a spot in next year’s Copa Libertadores.

Avai dropped not just one spot but two, being surpassed by Ceara who beat Gremio 2-1. An own goal from Willian Magrao put Ceara in the lead in the very first minute, but the hosts exchanged favours in the 25th minute when Anderson directed the ball into his own net for 1-1.

the winning goal came with just one minute left in regular time and was scored by Geraldo.
