Brazil eye first points

Brazil are hoping to move on from their draw with Venezuela and respond with victory over Paraguay in the Copa America on Saturday.

The defending champions had a host of chances in their opening match of the tournament, but their failure to hit the back of the net means the clash against Paraguay takes on more significance.

But striker Alexandre Pato, who hit the bar and had several shots saved, believes his team must learn from the game and move on.

“We all hoped for a win but unfortunately there were no goals and we didn’t get the three points,” Pato said.

“It wasn’t a good result because the other teams tied as well. Now we have to train hard, look at the mistakes we made in that game so that the same thing doesn’t happen against Paraguay and we can come out with a win.”

Pato rejected the notion that Venezuela were ‘weak’ and knows his side will be given a stern test against Paraguay, who drew 0-0 in their opener against Ecuador.

“There are no weak teams, they are all at a high level which is why the game against Paraguay will be as difficult as the one against Venezuela,” he said.

Brazil have won four of their seven meetings against Paraguay and will head into the match with confidence, but aware that any slip-up could cost them dearly.
