Brazil Serie A wrap: Flamengo held at Bahia

A last-minute Jobson equaliser saw promoted Bahia draw 3-3 with Flamengo in Brazil’s Serie A on Sunday, while champions Fluminense won.

Hosts Bahia, who won promotion after finishing third in Serie B last season, led through a goal from forward Lulinha, on loan from Corinthians, in the 16th minute of the match at Estadio de Pituacu.

Former Barcelona and AC Milan man Ronaldinho equalised for the visitors on 29 minutes, before forward Jobson struck his first of the match to restore Bahia’s lead with nine minutes remaining in the half.

Argentine attacking midfielder Dario Bottinelli levelled again for Flamengo on 54 minutes.

The visiting side would go on to take the lead for the first time in the match when defender Egidio scored to make it 3-2 with 18 minutes remaining.

After falling behind, Bahia’s task to earn a point became harder still when they lost midfielder Helder to a second yellow card.

But the 10 men remaining on the pitch for Bahia refused to submit, and Jobson was on hand to provide the equaliser moments before the final whistle.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Serie A title holders Fluminense, who went down 2-0 to Sao Paulo in the opening round of the season, recorded their first victory with a 1-0 win away to Goianiense.

Leandro Euzebio struck the winner in the 11th minute for Flu.

Vasco da Gama moved second after beating America Mineiro 3-0 at home.

An early Bernando penalty, and goals from Enrico and Elton accounted for the visitors, who had Dudu sent off for two bookable offences.

In other matches, Cruzeiro were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Palmeiras, while Danilo’s 80th-minute winner helped Corinthians beat Coritiba 2-1.

Finally, a Rafael Santos own goal handed Gremio a 1-0 win away to Atletico Paranaense.
