Fluminense are in position to capture the Brazil Serie A title after beating Palmeiras, but Corinthians and Cruzeiro can still pounce.

Fluminense, who finished 16th last season, lead by a single point with one round left after a 2-1 win away to Palmeiras on Saturday.

They fell behind to a Dinei goal just four minutes in at the Arena Barueri, but Carlinhos hit back in the 18th minute, before Tarta grabbed what may prove to be a vital winner in the 57th minute.

Fluminense can wrap up the championship with victory at home to relegated Guarani next week, but Corinthians and Cruzeiro remain poised to take advantage of a slip-up after both won on Sunday.

Goals from Bruno Cesar and Danilo secured a 2-0 win for Corinthians at home to Vasco de Gama.

They remain just a point behind the leaders and take on relegated Goias away from home in the final round next Sunday.

Cruzeiro also won 2-1 away to Flamengo and are only two points behind Fluminense.

Diego Mauricio opened the scoring for the hosts in the ninth minute, but the lead lasted just seven minutes before Roger levelled for Cruzeiro.

Thiago Ribeiro grabbed the winner in the 68th minute, but Cruzeiro will need to win at home to Palmeiras next weekend and hope that the top two both falter.

Guarani were consigned to relegation when they lost 3-0 at home to Gremio, while Botafogo won 3-1 at home to Gremio Prudente, who are already relegated in last place.

Atletico Mineiro guaranteed their safety with a 3-1 win at home to already relegated Goias.

A hat-trick from Caio helped Avai come from two goals down to secure a vital 3-2 win at home to Santos.

Three points lifts the club out of the relegation zone and secures their top-flight status for the following season.

Vitoria slipped into the bottom four after a 1-1 draw away to Internacional.

They now face a winner-takes-all relegation decider at home to Athletico Goianiense, who are level on both points and goal difference.

A draw will be enough for Athletico Goianiense courtesy of their superior record, while nothing less than a win will suffice for Vitoria.
