Brazil World Cup star pondering Inter move; Berbatov rejects Bulgaria return

Brazil World Cup star pondering Inter move

Luis Fabiano looks likely to leave Sevilla in January after being relegated to the bench, and his agent failed to rule out a move to Inter.

The player’s agent, Jose Fuentes has already said Fabiano could leave the club in January and he now mentions Inter as the possible destination.

“A departure in January? In football everything is possible and if Inter are interested they should call me because nothing is impossible in football,” said Fuentes.

“At the moment, I haven’t heard of interest from Inter or any other club as far as January transfer window is concerned. It’s true that the player is a bit down at the moment.

“In the summer he wanted to leave, there were formal offers from Marseille, Schalke 04, Tottenham and Fenerbahce, but they did not interest us. Another one has been rejected by Sevilla and then we have renewed the contract until 2013, but now he doesn’t play. I don’t know why, let’s see what happens with the new coach.”

It looks as though Luis Fabiano has set his sights on leaving the club and now it’s up to his agent to secure him a big money move. Inter certainly weren’t mentioned by accident as Fuentes is well aware the Neroazzurri are looking for a striker and this was the perfect opportunity to alert them about Fabiano’s availability.

Ben Arfa: I want to stay at Newcastle

The bad boy of French football, Hatem Ben Arfa is enjoying life at St James Park and he says he wants to remain at Newcastle.

The Frenchman hinted he could be a key man for the Magpies this season by scoring the winner against Everton on his debut and he already seems settled in England.

“I have settled very well. I’m living in a flat. It is good. I am very happy. It is a beautiful place. I could not have wished for better than to begin like I did with the goal against Everton. It gets everyone on my side but there is more to come.

“I am only interested in giving everything to the team. If something like that happens, it is great. But the team comes first.”

Newcastle paid just £800,000 for the loan deal and if Ben Arfa plays more than 25 games this season, the transfer will become permanent for the fee of just £5 million.

“I would be delighted to stay at Newcastle. There is tradition and history. It is a big club. I came here because I had a very good feeling from the first conversation.
“The directors and the manager made it clear they wanted me. Football is something that lifts people. It lifts their lives. That is why they go to games. That is why I play. That is what I love.”

It is more than clear Newcastle have got themselves a real gem of a player, who can be one of the best in the Premiership if he feels valued, although after what he did at Lyon and Marseille, nobody can guarantee that he won’t leave Newcastle as well when one of the big guns come asking for him.

Matthaus: Berbatov rejected Bulgaria return

New Bulgaria coach Lothar Matthaus revealed he failed to convince Dimitar Berbatov to reconsider his international retirement.

The Bulgarian announced his international retirement in May after the constant turmoil in the national team and Matthaus couldn’t make him change his decision.

“I have had several conversations with him, but he is not ready to play for Bulgaria again,” said Matthaus.

“He gave me no reasons, but for me the issue is settled for Berbatov and other players can now take their chances.

“It’s like the Germany team before the 2010 World Cup: Ballack got injured so Ozil and Khedira took their chances and are now at Real Madrid.”

This is clearly a big blow for Bulgaria, as the national team would need something special to qualify for the Euro 2012 after losing the first two games, so Matthaus will just have to make do with what he’s got.
