Internacional have moved into fifth in the Brazilian Serie A after a come-from-behind 3-1 win over Avai on Thursday.

Days after sacking coach Paulo Roberto Falcao and football director Roberto Siegmann, three second-half goals gave them victory to move within a point of fourth-placed Palmeiras.

Forward William had given Avai the lead in first half stoppage time, tapping in after Internacional goalkeeper Muriel had saved his penalty.

Avai were looking for just their second win of the season, but conceded an equaliser to substitute Andrezinho on 67 minutes.

Parity only lasted three minutes before Internacional were ahead thanks to a powerful header from Leandro Damiao at the near post.

Under interim boss Osmar Loss, Internacional wrapped up the points in added time as Argentine Andres D’Alessandro was handed a simple finish, leaving Avai third from bottom with just seven points from their opening 11 games.
