A late goal from Jael has helped Flamengo extend their unbeaten start in the Brazilian Serie A to 15 games with a 1-0 win over Coritiba.

It took 89 minutes for Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s team to break the deadlock on Saturday.

Two-time FIFA World Player of the Year Ronaldinho delivered a pinpoint cross for Jael to head home and send Flamengo top, although they will slip back down to second if Corinthians beat Atletico Paranaense on Sunday.

Promoted Coritiba remain 10th despite the loss.

Elsewhere, Figueirense recorded a 2-1 win over Atletico Mineiro thanks to a double from Elias.

The attacking midfielder struck twice in the first half and his side held on despite Dudu Cearense’s 47th-minute goal.

Figueirense move into seventh on the back of the win, while Atletico Mineiro sit 13th.

In the other game, fifth-placed Palmeiras and Gremio played out a scoreless draw.
