Palmeiras extended their perfect home record to four matches with a 2-0 home win over Atletico Goianense in the Brazilian Serie A on Thursday.
Heading into the match with nine points from their first three home games, the fans at the Estadio Dr. Oswaldo Teixeira Duarte were expecting another victory and they got exactly that.
Maikon Leite bagged the opener on 28 minutes and just six minutes later Marcos Assuncao doubled the hosts’ lead.
Despite Atletico manager PC Gusmao making all three of his substitutions in the first 10 minutes of the second half, the visitors could not find a way back into the match as Palmeiras cruised to victory.
In other matches, Ciro scored a double in Fluminense’s easy 3-1 win over Atletico Paranaense as two goals in the space of one first-half minute secured victory.
Coritiba also won 3-1, with goals to Leonardo, Everton Costa and Leo Gago in the first hour sealing victory, while Internacional routed Atletico Mineiro 4-0 with all four strikes coming after half-time.
Leandro Damiao, Ze Roberto, Andres D’Alessandro and Oscar all scored in the easy win that extended Internacional’s unbeaten streak to five.
Atletico had defender Guilherme Santos sent off in the dying stages to add insult to injury.
