Sao Paulo climbed to third in the Brazilian Serie A with a 3-0 home win over Bahia on Thursday.

Adilson Batista’s side started the day in fifth but closed within three points of table-toppers Corinthians with the win.

Goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni, who has scored more than 100 goals in his career, opened the scoring with a 28th minute penalty.

Striker Dagoberto added a second on the stroke of half-time, and Lucas Silva sealed victory just five minutes after the break.

Ivan Piris of Paraguay was given a second yellow card on 55 minutes but despite being a man down, the hosts held on for a comfortable win.

In other matches, second-half goals to Souza and Rafael Moura saw Fluminense defeat 10-man Internacional 2-0, while Atletico Paranaense moved off the foot of the table after a 3-0 triumph over fellow strugglers Atletico Goianiense.
