Werder Bremen director of sport Klaus Allofs is hoping for a reversal in form when his side travel to Schalke in the Bundesliga.
Bremen have won just one of their past four games – a 4-1 victory over Wolfsburg last Saturday – and Allofs said a win by any margin would be a ‘spectacular’ result.
Schalke are on a four-match unbeaten run and Allofs knows they will be tough to beat, though he believes there was little difference in quality between the sides.
“We are a bit like Schalke, it’s depending on the current form. They have had very good games and less good ones. It’s the same with us. So I don’t see massive differences between the two teams according to the quality of the squad or the players,” Allofs said.
“I would be happy with a 1-0 (win). That would be spectacular enough for us, and that’s not our expectation.”
“Lately our performances weren’t that good, so that’s where to start with. We know that we can do spectacular things in the offence.”
If Bremen are to win they will have to negate the attacking threat posed by Schalke’s Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and veteran Raul.
