On the eve of Bremen’s Champions League clash at FC Twente on Wednesday, Werder striker Claudio Pizarro has admitted his side badly need points if they are to keep their hopes of a knock-out place alive.
Bremen play the Dutch champions in Enschede with both sides on the bottom of Group A with just one point and Werder badly need to pick up a win in Holland as they look to recover from their 4-0 hammering at the hands of Inter Milan.
Inter and Harry Redknapp-coached Tottenham Hotspur lead the group with four points from two games, leaving Bremen and Twente requiring points or risk exiting the competition at the group stages.
Bremen were beaten 1-0 at the De Grolsch Veste Stadium in a Europa League Round of 32 match last February before securing a 4-1 victory over the Dutch back in Germany and Pizarro is wary.
“We desperately need points,” said former Chelsea striker Pizarro.
“It will not be easy for us, Twente have improved since the last time we played them last February.”
Twente are unbeaten in their last nine games and are third in the Dutch league.
In contrast, Bremen are in mid-table with 11 points from eight games, but are unbeaten in their last three German league games.
