Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes has insisted Brazilian defender Breno will remain at the club.
Breno, 21, struggled for regular football in the Bundesliga last season, making just 13 appearances after suffering a knee injury.
But Heynckes moved to re-assure the defender of his future at the club, despite previous comments from Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge suggesting that the Sao Paulo product’s days at the club were over.
“Breno will be staying on, that is for sure,” Heynckes told Kicker-Sportmagazin.
“I am hoping he is going to cope with the workload, this would be important as I need to have a good alternative choice in terms of central defence.”
“Breno could even play in a full-back position, as soon as he is fully fit.”
Bayern’s final week of pre-season training is underway as they continue to prepare for their season opener against Borussia Moenchengladbach on Sunday.
The pressure is Bayern to win their 23rd Bundesliga title after a disappointing effort last season, with 66-year-old Heynckes back at the club for his third stint.
