Rennes forward Jimmy Briand snapped his anterior cruciate ligament in training with Les Bleus and will be out of action for at least six months.

Rennes general manager Pierre Dréossi said: “It is a catastrophe, especially because we still have ambitions in both the championship and the Cup. Moreover the injury occurred while he was not with Rennes.”

On a potential transfer for Briand, Dréossi added: “I don’t want to think about that. We’ll talk it over with Jimmy at the appropriate time.”
