According to Fabrizio Romano, Brighton and Hove Albion have reached a full agreement with James Milner over a free transfer when his contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season. The veteran midfielder will sign a deal to spend the next season playing for the Seagulls.
Brighton already have a history of benefiting from such a contract situation at Liverpool, having signed Adam Lallana in the same way in 2020. They also have a policy of signing young players for relatively small fees and turning them into high-quality ones, and in that aspect, Milner’s vast experience will probably be of great importance to help guide the next batch of young prospects.
Milner remains one of the two current Liverpool players who joined the Merseysiders before the appointment of Jurgen Klopp, having come from Manchester City in 2015. Since then, the 37-year-old has gone on to make a total of 328 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals and providing 46 assists. An extremely versatile player, Milner has played in almost every outfield position in what has been an illustrious career, and Klopp will surely miss the reliability that his vice-captain has been providing for so long.
