Brighton and Hove Albion have reached an agreement with VfB Stuttgart over a proposed deal to sign Nicolas Gonzalez, according to The Guardian. The Seagulls are now set to break their club record by paying a fee of £25 million for the services of the 23-year-old forward.
Gonzalez started his professional career with Argentine side Argentinos Juniors, where he earned promotion to the first team in 2016 and moved to the Mercedes-Benz Arena two years later. Since then, he’s gone on to represent the German club on 79 occasions in all competitions, scoring 23 goals and producing 10 assists. He endured an extremely torrid 2020-21, with various knee and muscle fibre issues keeping him out of action for large spells of the campaign.
Brighton had been following Gonzalez’s progress for a long time and the talks between the two clubs have been going on for several weeks. Stuttgart received a bid of similar value from Fiorentina, but the player’s desire to play in the Premier League has won the race for the Seagulls.
