Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy has been ruled out of England’s Euro 2012 campaign after suffering a broken finger.
Ruddy picked up the fracture during Thursday’s training session at the Etihad Stadium and will not fly to Poland and the Ukraine next month.
Birmingham City custodian Jack Butland, who has spent the season on loan at League Two side Cheltenham Town, will be promoted to the squad after being put on Roy Hodgson’s standby list.
Ruddy produced several commanding displays in goal for Norwich as Paul Lambert’s side enjoyed a successful first season back in the Premier League since 2005.
The Football Association have confirmed that Ruddy will fly out to Norway with the squad to watch Saturday’s friendly in Oslo, but will return to Norwich once the team travel back to England.
Meanwhile, Butland will join up with the squad next week in preparation for the friendly with Belgium at Wembley on June 2.
