Bruce gets anniversary boost as Wigan pile on Baggies agony

Steve Bruce celebrated a year in charge at Wigan by watching his side win a second consecutive league match for the first time under him with bottom side West Brom the unfortunate fall guys.

Bruce's men had to come from behind to do it after Ishmael Miller had fired the visitors into the lead just after half-time.

Henri Camara, the match-winner against Everton on Monday, equalised on the hour mark and Emmerson Boyce popped up two minutes from time to claim a scarcely deserved 2-1 win for the home side.

Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland deserved a share of the plaudits after a string of saves that will have done his chances of an England recall no harm.

Wigan might have had a less stressful afternoon if Camara had made more of a good early chance, the Senegal forward knocking Ryan Taylor's corner wide after finding himself unmarked at the back post.

Emile Heskey was also off target after being teed up by Antonio Valencia and it was West Brom, who had offered little before the break, who grabbed the lead two minutes into the second half.

Wigan centreback Titus Bramble was at fault, losing possession to Miller as a result of an ill-advised attempt to try and chest the ball down when a more rustic clearance would have been in his side's best interests.

Miller raced clear and fired beyond Kirkland from just inside the area.

Albion almost doubled their lead when Scotland midfielder James Morrison was sent clear by Miller's header only to be denied by Kirkland's quick reactions.

Wigan boss Bruce brought on Jason Koumas for Michael Brown and a minute later Camara equalised with a fine outside-of-the-boot finish from a Heskey nod-on.

West Brom almost regained the lead in the 75th minute but Kirkland did well to parry Jonas Olsson's header following an inswinging corner and the goalkeeper also kept out a powerful drive from Jonathan Greening.

West Brom had done enough to earn a point but Tony Mowbray's attractive side were left with nothing once again when Boyce connected powerfully with a Koumas corner to beat Scott Carson from 15 yards.
