(GSM) – Sunday’s Belgian top clash between Club Brugge and Standard Liege ended in a 2-1 win to the home side. Leaders Anderlecht earned a professional 2-0 victory over Mechelen.

Troubled champions Standard initially gave Brugge enough to worry about as Dieumerci Mbokani put the guests in the lead after 25 minutes.

But an own goal from striker Wesley Sonck handed Club Brugge a fortunate equaliser four minutes after the break and Dorge Kouemaha made it 2-1 three minutes later.

Anderlecht needed until the 73rd minute to make a difference against Mechelen, with Guillaume Gillet finally breaking the deadlock for the Brussels outfit. Another two minutes later, it was Romelo Lukaku to hit the target for 2-0.

The Belgian league uses a different set-up this season, with the top six advancing to a championship group at the end of the regular tournament. At the moment, those six are Anderlecht, Brugge, Gent, Kortrijk, Sint-Truiden and Zulte-Waregem.

Due to their defeat at Brugge, Standard drop to seventh place.
