Bruno Fernandes has signed a new contract with Manchester United, the 20-time English champions have confirmed. He is now set to remain at Old Trafford for four more years, with an option on a fifth.
The 27-year-old Portugal international made an impact instantly upon arriving to the club from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, coming in at a time when United were certainly in need of such a player. Since then, he’s had 88 goal involvements (49 goals, 39 assists) in 117 matches in all competitions for the club.
United have been keen to reward Fernandes for his efforts as well as to secure his services for the foreseeable future for a while now, but the negotiations over the new deal didn’t get off to a great start with the player apparently keen for the club to show ambition to return to the very top of English and European football.
“From the moment that I joined Manchester United, I have had a special relationship with the club and our amazing fans. I grew up watching this team, dreaming of getting the chance to play here one day,” Fernandes said.
“That dream is now a reality and an honour.”
