(GSM) – Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck has dismissed allegations being leveled against the Premier League champions that they had illegally approached Santos star Neymar.
Last week it was reported that Buck and agent Pini Zahavi had met with the player and his representative in New York to agree personal terms ahead of a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
However, Santos have rejected a £20 million offer from Chelsea for the 18-year-old forward – who has a release clause of £29 million – and have threatened to report the Blues to FIFA for what they describe as “harassment”.
Buck has firmly denied that Chelsea are guilty of tapping up the player, though he has admitted that the player is a target for coach Carlo Ancelotti.
“There was no tapping up from Chelsea and I want to be clear on that,” Buck told talkSPORT. “We are looking at several young Brazilian players and he is one of the players we have been looking at. Whether he becomes a Chelsea player at some point, who knows?
“We are still looking at some things, whether they happen or not I don’t know. Carlo is happy and confident with the squad we have. If there is another player or two – great, if not we’re fine with what we have.”
