(GSM) – Los Angeles Galaxy beat New York RB 0-1 this Saturday to add another three points to their Major League Soccer account and defend their lead in the Western Conference.

Hosts New York needed a win to keep pressure on Eastern Conference winners Columbus Crew while a Los Angeles victory would leave the guests in a very comfortable position in the Western.

Just ten minutes had been played at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison when Edson Buddle put the Galaxy ahead with a low shot into the right corner of New York’s goal.

The home side came close to equalizing in the second half but an effort from Colombian Juan Pablo Angel ended up on the crossbar.

Both teams fielded a number of top players for this clash, most notably Rafael Marquez and Thierry Henry for New York and Landon Donovan for Los Angeles.
