England thrashed Bulgaria in Sofia by 6-0 on Monday, in a Euro 2020 qualifier which will be long remembered, but not for the scoreline or the impressive performance of the visitors.
Unfortunately, it will be remembered by the sounds that were coming from the stands of the Vasil Levski stadium. Throughout the match, several England players were subjected to racist abuse from the home supporters, due to which the play was stopped more than once and it was doubtful if it would be continued at all.
However, after the match, Bulgaria boss Krasimir Balkov denied hearing the abusive behavior of the crowd, insisting that he had been focused on the game itself and that the claims of racism would still have to be proven.
