Bullard expected to remain in Premier League

(GSM) – Hull City manager Iain Dowie believes Jimmy Bullard will not be in his team next season. Dowie says the reason is financial as the club cannot continue to pay Bullard his high wages.

Bullard arrived at the KC Stadium in a £5million deal but two knee injuries had restricted his appearances to 15 for the Tigers. The midfielder’s reported £45,000-a-week wages from a major setback for the relegated club.

Since the club has been relegated to the Championship and has large debts, the club is unlikely to retain the services of Bullard.

Newcastle and West Brom are two clubs chasing the signature of the player, although Hull will possibly have to let go of Bullard for a fraction of what they had paid to sign him.

Dowie said: “I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some movement there for Jimmy to play in the Premier League. Not because of anything other than the fact the wages aren’t sustainable.”

“It’s been a mixed bag and I think he would agree with that himself,” said Dowie. “But too much is talked about with Jimmy – it can’t always be just him being at the root of all problems. I think that’s very harsh on the lad.

“He’s come back and the team’s been in a worse run of form and it’s not as easy to flourish in a team that’s not full of confidence.”
