Norwegian international Mohammed Abdellaoue scored the only goal as Hannover ended their winless Bundesliga run of eight matches.
Abdellaoue struck in the 18 minutes to steer his side to seventh place in the league ahead of the weekend’s other matches.
It was Hannover’s first win since a 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich on October 23, leaving the team in seventh place ahead of the weekend’s games.
The 26-year-old Norway striker struck after getting on the end of Lars Stindl’s cross from the right while in between two Nuremberg defenders to score from five metres.
The visitors failed to threaten before the break but improved afterwards with goalkeeper Ron Robert Zieler denying half-time substitute Tomas Pekhart from equalising in the 55th minute.
Jens Hegeler came closest for Nurnberg in the 88th minute, deflecting a free kick agonisingly wide.
