Goals from Nicolai Mueller and Andreas Ivanschitz handed Mainz a 2-1 win over Nuremberg in the Bundesliga on Friday.
Mainz moved above Borussia Dortmund to fifth on the table, though the reigning champions have a game in hand to play against lowly Augsburg on Saturday.
Mueller opened the scoring for the home side in the 12th minute, before Ivanschitz doubled the advantage nine minutes later.
Per Nilsson’s 40th-minute goal gave Nuremberg hope, but the visitors failed in their search for an equaliser.
The win was Mainz’s fourth of the season at home, while Nuremberg slumped to their fourth away defeat in a row.
Nuremberg are in 14th place, just three points above the relegation zone.
