Bundesliga preview: Bayern look to march on

A big fortnight for Bayern Munich will continue this weekend as they travel to Stuttgart in Bundesliga action.

The German league leaders announced the signing of Pep Guardiola last Tuesday as their new manager from next season and will look to extend a nine-game unbeaten run against their 10th-placed challengers on Sunday.

Stuttgart, only five points away from the last German UEFA Champions League spot, will be hoping to recover from two consecutive losses to Wolfsburg (2-0) and Mainz (3-1).

Nine points behind Bayern in second place is Bayer Leverkusen, who face a tricky away tie against Freiburg on Saturday.

Leverkusen will take good form into the clash with home wins against Eintracht Frankfurt (3-1) and Hamburg (3-0), but will need to be wary of a Freiburg side enjoying a great season in sixth position.

The home side is currently on a four-match unbeaten run as they aim to qualify for Europe for only the third time in their history.

Juergen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund snapped a streak of three games without a win to record two consecutive victories, including a 5-0 win away at Werder Bremen last weekend.

They will host a Nuremberg side on Friday night looking to avoid being sucked into a relegation battle after two consecutive 1-1 draws against Bremen and Hamburg.

High-flying Eintracht Frankfurt will be confident of a victory against Hoffenheim on Saturday, who has been winless in eight games.

Frankfurt is sitting in fourth place, a great achievement for a club only promoted at the start of the season.

Also on Saturday, second-last Augsburg have a tough contest against Schalke, while rock-bottom Greuther Fuerth will be hoping to get their second win of the season against Mainz.

Unbeaten in their last six games, Borussia Moechengladbach will take on Fortuna Dusseldorf and Hannover 96 locks horns with Wolfsburg with both teams looking to push into mid-table.

On Sunday, Werder Bremen travel to Hamburg hoping to banish the memory of their thrashing by Dortmund in front of their home fans last weekend.
