Bayern Munich continued their winning start to the Bundesliga with a 3-1 victory over Mainz, which included the fastest goal of the season.

Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic slotted Thomas Mueller’s cross in just the second minute on Saturday to put the hosts 1-0 ahead at Allianz Arena.

In the 13th minute it was 2-0 as Bastian Schweinsteiger headed a cross from Holger Badstuber into the net but despite dominating the first half, Bayern remained just two goals up at the break.

Mainz gave the hosts a scare 14 minutes into the second half after Bayern defender Dante fouled Julian Baumgartlinger inside the penalty area.

Hungarian striker Adam Szalai stepped up and slotted the penalty and suddenly Mainz were back in the game.

The home fans had to wait until the second minute of injury time for Bayern to secure the three points thanks to a brilliant volley from Toni Kroos.

The two-goal victory was Bayern’s third from three matches and leaves them top of the Bundesliga table with nine points.

Hannover are second with seven points after Szabolcs Huszti scored an injury time winner to clinch a 3-2 victory over Werder Bremen.

Huszti was brilliant for Hannover throughout the match and put his side in front after just five minutes with a delightful free-kick into the top right corner.

The home side were cruising in the 10th minute when Danish midfielder Leon Andreasen headed Huszti’s cross into the net.

However, Bremen dragged themselves back into the contest with goals from Aaron Hunt and Kevin De Bruyne either side of half-time.

Hunt converted a 26th-minute penalty after Hannover defender Mario Eggimann handled the ball inside the box, while De Bruyne finished off Eljero Elia’s cross in the 74th-minute.

Bremen looked like they would hang on for a draw before Huszti struck the winning goal in the third minute of injury time and the Hungarian winger’s dramatic day continued as he was given his second yellow card of the match for over-celebrating and was sent off as Hannover celebrated victory.

Borussia Dortmund and Nuremberg are also on seven points after both notched wins.

The reigning champions thumped Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 and Nuremberg won 3-2 away to Borussia Moenchengladbach, while Stuttgart were held to a 0-0 draw by Dusseldorf.
