Borussia Monchengladbach pulled off a stunning upset on Sunday, beating Bayern Munich away 1-0 at the Allianz Arena in the Bundesliga.
Monchengladbach’s Igor De Camargo scored the winner for the visitors in the 62nd minute, stunning last season’s third-placed Bayern before their home fans.
Last term, Monchengladbach recorded just 10 wins in 34 games, and had to win a relegation play-off to maintain their top-flight status.
Mainz recorded their first win of the season as they proved too strong for last season’s runners-up Bayer Leverkusen 2-0.
Sami Allagui gifted the home side a first-half lead, before an own-goal from Omer Toprak put the match to bed in the closing stages at the Coface Arena.
Mainz grabbed the lead after 32 minutes of play, when visiting shot-stopper Fabian Giefer failed to clear the ball and passed straight into the path of Allagui, who had no trouble finding the net.
The away side were far from impressed by the blunder, and came close to equalising on a number of occasions, but Mainz goalkeeper Heinz Muller proved to be too much of an obstacle.
Mainz clinched the game late in the second half when defender Toprak was unable to clear a cross from Marco Caligiuri and managed to beat Giefer into his own net.
