Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Hamburg 3-2 to keep their perfect start going after three rounds of the new Bundesliga season.

Having only rejoined Germany’s top flight this season after one campaign in the second tier, Frankfurt claimed their third victory from as many games with midfielder Stefan Aigner scoring the clinching goal for the home side.

Frankfurt blitzed Hamburg in a five-minute period of the first half on Sunday to take a 2-0 lead with Takashi Inui and Olivier Occean scoring the goals.

Inui produced a calm finish in the 13th minute to take advantage of a mix-up in Hamburg’s defence and five minutes later Occean swooped inside the penalty area following a Frankfurt corner to double the home team’s lead.

Hamburg struck back in the final minute before half-time thanks to a goal from Heiko Westermann but just before the break the visitors lost a man as Petr Jiracek received a red card for a brutal tackle on Anderson.

The home side took advantage just seven minutes into the second half when Aigner produced a smart finish for Frankfurt’s third goal of the game and while Hamburg scored again in the 63rd minute through Son Heung-Min, the visitors could not find an equaliser.

Frankfurt moved level with Bayern Munich on nine points, although they trail the Bundesliga leaders on goal difference, while Hamburg remain in the relegation zone without a point this season.

In Sunday’s other match, Freiburg scored twice in the last seven minutes to overcome Hoffenheim 5-3.

The visitors from Hoffenheim went in front in just the second minute of the match thanks to a goal from Matthieu Delpierre but it was Freiburg that led at half-time after Karim Guede scored in the 17th minute and Max Kruse headed home 10 minutes later.

Hoffenheim made it 2-2 in the 57th minute when substitute Boris Vukcevic scored but Freiburg snuck ahead 11 minutes later as Fallou Diagne headed Kruse’s corner into the net.

Takashi Usami scored Hoffenheim’s second equalising goal of the match with a powerful shot in the 68th minute but the away side went home without any points as Freiburg stormed home.

Cedric Makiadi tapped home from another Kruse corner in the 83rd minute and the latter claimed his third assist of the match four minutes later when he set up Sebastian Freis’ sealer.
