Borussia Dortmund failed to increase their lead at the top of the Bundesliga on Saturday after stumbling to a 1-0 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt.

In a tight struggle at the Commerzbank-Arena, Frankfurt had to wait until the 87th minute for a winner, which came from Greek international Theofanis Gekas.

The goal came after substitute Martin Fenin produced a delightful flick to Gekas who rifled a left-foot shot past Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller.

Dortmund would have extended their lead over second-place Bayer Leverkusen to 14 points with a win but could now see the buffer dwarfed to eight should Leverkusen beat Freiburg on Sunday.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Hannover missed a chance to leapfrog Leverkusen into second place when they lost 3-1 at Nuremberg.

An own goal from Steve Cherundolo gave Nuremberg the lead, which Andreas Wolf doubled after 31 minutes.

Sergio Pinto pulled one back for Hannover from the penalty spot, but Julian Schieber sealed the win for the hosts eight minutes from time.

Schalke continued their renaissance after a slow start to the season with a 3-0 win over Cologne that came thanks to a hat-trick from Spanish striker Raul.

Kaiserslautern climbed into 12th place in the standings via a 2-1 win over struggling Werder Bremen at Weserstadion.

Croatian striker Srdjan Lakic gave Kaiserslautern the lead inside the first minute, but Aaron Hunt equalised for the hosts from the penalty spot after 34 minutes.

Lakic was on target again seven minutes after the interval to restore Kaiserslautern’s lead, but they were reduced to 10 men when defender Alexander Bugera was dismissed for a second yellow card after 72 minutes.

Bremen also had a man sent off when Sandro Wagner was given a second caution in the 84th minute.

Wolfsburg scored two goals in the final 15 minutes in their 2-2 draw at home against Hoffenheim.

Luis Gustavo Dias opened the scoring for the visitors on 34 minutes and Gylfi Sigurdsson doubled their advantage six minutes later.

But Brazilian playmaker Diego pulled a goal back after 75 minutes for Bremen before Bosnian international Edin Dzeko levelled the score one minute into stoppage time.
