Dan Burn has signed a new contract with Newcastle, extending the validity of his commitment to the club until the summer of 2025, 12 months longer than his previous deal.
The 31-year-old defender, unusually tall for a fullback at 6’6”, has been a very important player in Eddie Howe’s team since arriving to St. James’ Park from Brighton in January 2022. He played a vital part in their run to Champions League qualification throughout last season, and this term, he’s already scored more goals than in 2022/23, netting against Sheffield United and Paris Saint-Germain.
Interestingly enough, Newcastle were Burn’s first club at youth level, but being one of football’s late bloomers, he played for a variety of clubs before finally settling down at Brighton in January 2019. In the three years that followed, he made a total of 85 appearances for Brighton in all competitions, and when the chance to join the Magpies under their new ownership presented itself, the decision to make the switch was likely easy to make.
