Burnley are on the verge of signing Maxime Esteve from Montpellier in the final days of the January transfer window, according to Sacha Tavolieri. The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported on X that Premier League club Burnley have reached an agreement with Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier over Esteve.

Esteve has been on the books of Montpellier since 2011. He has come through the club’s youth system and is now part of the first team. The 21-year-old France Under-21 international defender has made 12 appearances in Ligue 1 so far this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist in those games. He made 18 starts and five substitute appearances in the league last season and made 20 starts and four substitute appearances in Ligue 1 in 2021-22.
Burnley are second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with 12 points from 21 matches, seven points behind 17th-placed Luton Town. Montpellier currently find themselves 12th in the Ligue 1 table with 19 points from 19 matches, three points above the relegation zone.
