According to Sky Sports, Burnley are interested in signing Andy Carroll as a potential replacement for Chris Wood, who has joined Newcastle.
The Magpies triggered the release clause in Wood’s contract and took him to the St. James Park with Burnley effectively unable to prevent him from leaving. Wood’s presence will certainly be beneficial to Newcastle, but the motives behind the swoop become even clearer with the fact that it has directly weakened Newcastle’s direct rival in the battle against relegation.
However, the Clarets are obviously looking to bounce back as quickly as possible, and they’re looking at Carroll to fill in the void. The former Newcastle, Liverpool and West Ham target man has scored one goal and assisted one more in seven Championship appearances for Reading this term. His short-term contract with Reading expires this week, which means the 33-year-old will be making his next move as a free agent.
