Burnley are interested in signing Kai Wagner from the Philadelphia Union in the January transfer window, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg. The well-known and well-respected reporter has claimed that Coventry City are also keen on a deal for the 27-year-old German left-back.
Plettenberg wrote on X: “Excl | Burnley and Coventry are pushing to sign Kai Wagner. 27 y/o left-back from Philadelphia Union with a contract until 2026. But there is a release clause for this winter amounting to €2 million.
“Atalanta Bergamo, and Parma have also expressed concrete interest and have already made inquiries. Additionally, he has a market in the Bundesliga and Spain. 1 goal and 12 assists this season. One to watch now …”
Wagner has been on the books of the Union since 2019 and has established himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet of the Major League Soccer club. He won the Supporters’ Shield with the Union in 2020 and also helped the Zolos reach the final of the MLS Cup.
