(GSM) – Bursaspor went five points clear atop the Turkish Süper Lig on Monday after a 2-1 victory over relegation candidate Denizlispor.

The league leaders took the lead at home in the 35th minute when Ozan Ipek slotted home his eighth goal of the season beyond Denizlispor goalkeeper Ozden Ongün.

The crowd at the Bursa Atatürk stadium sensed that their lead would be growing on 68 minutes when Sercan Yildirim made it 2-0 to the home side, but they were in for a tense finish.

Trinidad and Tobago striker Darryl Roberts pulled a goal back for the lowly visitors in the 75th minute to leave the tie in doubt, but Bursaspor held on for the big victory.

With eight matches to play, Bursaspor are now five points up on Galatasaray for what would be the first league title in the club’s 47-year history.
