According to ESPN, Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets is set to sign a new contract with the Spanish giants in the next few weeks. The 30 year old has been with Barca since way back in 2005, and in that time he’s built a reputation for himself as both a consistently strong midfielder and a controversial figure courtesy of his tendency to play act and dive.
His current deal is set to run out in 2021 but has a clause which will cause a renewal upon reaching a certain amount of games.
Barca have started off strong both in La Liga and the Champions League this season, as they go in search of a strong campaign both domestically and in Europe. If they’re able to lock Busquets down to an even longer contract, that could be a big boost for them as they attempt to build a squad worthy of picking up even more silverware.
