(GSM) – Manchester United legend Nicky Butt has come out of retirement to play for South China, a side in Hong Kong’s HKFA 1st Division.
Butt hung up his boots at the end of last season while at Newcastle United and had spent 12 years at Manchester United.
But the 35-year-old has now made a shocking return to football, admitting that the passion of the club’s fans has prompted him to make a U-turn on his decision.
“I am not going to lie,” he said. “I have not been studying the Chinese League or Hong Kong for many years. It is all new to me.
“But I have been there two or three times and it is unbelievable how passionate the fans in Asia are.
“The football is not at the level of the Premier League but their fans still take it very seriously.”
