Newcastle United midfielder Nicky Butt will have to miss the start of the upcoming season after a partial dislocation of his thumb.
The 34-year-old suffered the injury in a pre-season game against Darlington, which Newcastle went on to win 7-2.
Surgery was required to repair the damage, but a ten-week absence couldn’t be avoided.
Newcastle play their first Championship game versus West Bromwich Albion on August 8.
