Vitesse left-back Alexander Buttner has revealed he is on the verge of signing for Manchester United in a deal worth 3.9 million pounds.

The 23-year-old, who was close to joining Southampton earlier this year before a move fell through, has been identified by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson as the man to provide Patrice Evra with competition at Old Trafford.

United have also been targeting Leighton Baines, however, Everton value the England international at 17 million pounds, which has prevented Ferguson from landing the left-back.

But Buttner, who was in the Netherlands’ preliminary Euro 2012 squad, said a move to Old Trafford was close.

“This is really a dream come true,” he told Dutch TV station Omroep Gelderland.

“It was all arranged very quickly and of course I am very delighted. Happily everything is coming to an end.”
